Housing

“Our Homes. Our Communities. Our Future. The American dream isn’t for sale!” ~ Kevin McClellan

Housing Is for Families—Not Wall Street

Housing is a necessity. It’s not a hedge fund strategy. Over the last decade, Wall Street firms, private equity, and corporate speculators have bought up hundreds of thousands of single-family homes. They’ve turned starter homes into rental portfolios, driven up prices, and locked working families out of homeownership. That’s not a free market. That’s rigged.

When trillion-dollar firms compete against teachers, nurses, police officers, veterans, and young families, regular people never had a fair shot. Corporations overbid, pay cash, hold homes off the market, and extract rent from communities built on local ownership. That ends.

Corporate landlords should not own single-family homes. Private equity firms, Wall Street investors, and large nonprofit housing speculators will be required to exit the single-family housing market, selling homes back into the market with priority for:

• owner-occupants

• first-time buyers

• veterans

• local families

We will also eliminate tax advantages and loopholes that reward corporations for hoarding housing while families struggle to compete. Neighborhoods should be owned by the people who live in them — not by balance sheets in New York.

Homes should build families, stability, and futures.

Not hedge fund profits.
